Seskine Cemetery
The Jewish cemetery at Seskine was established just before the Second World War. The first Jews to be buried there were those who had died in the Vilna Ghetto. The mausoleum of the Vilna Gaon is situated at Seskine and houses the remains of the Vilna Gaon, Talmudists from his closest circle and some members of his family. In 1949 Soviet authorities allowed for their transfer from the former Jewish cemetery at Snipiskes to the newer site at Seskine.
