Green House Museum
The Jewish State museum was opened officially on 1 October 1989 by Soviet Lithuanian authorities, following an initiative led by a group of Jewish intellectuals, including Emanuel Zingeris who became its director. As deputy director, Rachel Kostanian was in charge of exhibits and began amassing a collection by purchasing Jewish documents, artefacts and ritual objects from Lithuania and abroad. The museum holdings were spread over several sites with the exhibition dedicated to the Holocaust, The Catastrophe, located at the Green House Museum.
