Katkiskes
In September 1941, Jews of Veisiejai and the surrounding areas  were marched into a ghetto at Katkiškės village, about 1,600 in total.  On November 3, 1941, the mass murder operation began. Jews, herded into groups of several hundred, were taken from  the ghetto barracks to ditches, made to lie down, then shot by the battalion  troops from above. After one group was shot, a bit of earth was spread over them  and then another group was shot and thrown in on top of the previous one.  Several German officers observed the mass murder, which was carried out by local  Lithuanian police and white 'armbanders.'  The mass murder operation lasted several   hours. After the shooting, the unit departed for the town of  Lazdijai and and repaired to the local cafe for their supper. According to The Jäger Report, 1,535 Jews were murdered during this action on Nov. 3, 1941, including 485 men, 511 women and 539 children.
